Deep eutectic solvent as an eco-friendly catalyst for the synthesis of hydroxyphenylglycine methyl ester

Abstract The development of deep eutectic solvent (DES) as a green medium and catalyst for sustainable organic synthesis is expanding due to environmental consciousness. DES components are inexpensive, easy synthesize, non-toxic, biodegradable, have tunable physicochemical properties. In this study, DESs were formed by mixture choline chloride (ChCl) hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA), while oxalic acid, glycerol, urea acted donors (HBD). then characterized FTIR their was applied in the esterification reaction hydroxyphenylglycine (HPG) produce methyl ester (HPGME), an intermediate material beta-lactam antibiotics. result demonstrated that using consisting ChCl-oxalic acid (1:1) could HPGME with yield 40%. However, further research essential investigate optimum condition, such composition added DES, time, temperature obtain higher HPGME.
